Cissé, the African Griot is one of the characters in Dead In Vinland.

Description[ | ]

My name is Cissé Kouyaté. I am a man of peace, and I'd be happy to share my songs, my tales and my spirit.

~ Cissé

Keywords: Oddball – Storyteller – Pacifist

Cissé was the Griot of Soundiata Keïta, the wealthy and powerful leader of the Mali Empire. Griots are the repository of the tales of the people, poets, musicians and historians altogether.

An eccentric and very humble character, much liked for his tremendous storytelling skills, he was responsible for keeping and telling the tales of the most powerful families of the Empire, bringing him many troubles when family secrets became to resurface.

Despite his constant kindness and zest for life, he was becoming more and more unwanted. A devious scheme forced him out of the emperor’s court, and he was sold to a wandering slaver.

He was freed shortly after by a terrible storm that hit their ship. He drifted on his raft as the sole survivor until he wrecked on the island.

Combat[ | ]

As you can see, I am not a warrior, but I know a few things. I can learn, and I can teach.

~ Cissé

Cissé is a "Mystic Looter". Mystics lack the damage of the other classes, but have buffs (Prayer to the gods) and debuffs (Uncanny Litany, Ancient Curse) they can utilize to give their party the advantage in combat.

Hit Points/Health: 12
Action Points: 5
Initiative: 3
Effect Resistance: 15%

Like Eustache, Parvaneh and Shanaw, Cissé's "Looter" trait means the party will collect more loot after their victory if he is in the party. Note that multiple Looter traits DO stack.

Relationships[ | ]

It reminds me of an old saying in our land that... If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.

Special Event[ | ]

Occasionally during the afternoon, Cissé will play a catchy tune on his instrument. The survivor with the highest depression will enjoy listening to Cissé's song, which results in a decrease of the survivor's depression.

Cissé starts playing a catchy tune with his weird instrument. He improvises some words about different members of the camp. Quite unexpectedly, it's rather funny! <Survivor> had a great time listening to his song.

The survivor with the current highest depression loses some Depression Depression.

Trivia[ | ]

  • "Baobab" is the common name for a large tree that can be found in Africa. Cissé describes it as "a majestic, very large kind of tree. Their hollow trunks are used as graves for people of my caste."
