Bickering Seagulls

This is a Beach exploration event. It can occur multiple times per play through and offers the chance to obtain Dried Meal and Raw Meat in exchange for Arrows, Fresh Fruit or Raw Fish.

Inspect

Approaching the shore, you hear the chant of seagulls. Three of them are fighting over something, half buried in the sand.

Distract Them

Note: This is a 'red' option, meaning the 'entity' will disappear once this action is taken!

Relevant Skills: Courage, Agility, Scavenging

You don't know what the birds are fighting for but you want it.

• Throw Them Fruit

Requires at least 1 Fresh Fruit

You produce a fruit from your pouch, cut it in little bits and throw them away at some distance from the bickering seagulls. The seagulls leap onto the bits of fruit. That leaves you enough time to get the object of their quarrel! You dust off a small package made of leaves. Inside, you find smoked fish.

Requires at least 1 Raw Fish

You retrieve some raw fish from your pouch and throw it away from the bickering area. One seagull notices the fish and jumps to get it right away. The two other get jealous and soon follow. Might be because of the yummy smell but now their fight is more intense: they're fighting beak to beak. One seagull pecks out the eye of another. Bloodied feathers are plucked. You stare at the scene, shocked by the violence. The three seagulls end up butchering each other over a small piece of fish... Humans aren't that different, are they? Brooding over that thought, you collect meat from the gulls' body along with what they were fighting over.

• Charge the Seagulls (Courage)

Failure

You charge at the birds, screaming. The birds take off, squawking their disapproval. They circle over the beach. That leaves the object of their quarrel free for the taking. You just forgot one little thing... Seagulls are quite territorial and revengeful... As you bend over to get what was buried in the sand, you feel a razor-sharp beak colliding with your skull. You run away, trying to dodge the seagulls repetitively diving at you.

The survivor receives a Head Injury for three to five days.

You charge at the birds, arms opened wide and making as much noise as you can. The birds fly away, squawking in fear. That leaves the object of their quarrel free for the taking! You dust off a small package made of leaves. Inside, you find smoked fish. You just forgot one little thing...Seagulls are quite territorial and revengeful... As you get back on your feet, you feel a razor-sharp beak colliding with your skull. You run away, trying to dodge the seagulls repetitively diving at you.

It might be because you're hungry, but instead of seeing three beautiful gulls, you see three roasted birds on legs. Or maybe it's because you love that dish.

Note: while not a 'red' option, successfully attacking the seagulls will cause the 'entity' to disappear.

• Throw Pebbles (Strength)

Failure

You take a few pebbles on shore and aim at the birds. Your first shot misses poorly. The birds take off and squawk warning calls. You take aim again. This time you hit a wing. The birds staggers in the air but doesn't fall. Instead... IT DIVES AT YOU! Followed by its two companions. The angry birds are too fast for you to dodge. You have no choice but to run away and take cover in the forest.

Success

You take a few pebbles from the shore and aim at the birds. You smile. Your first shot hits a seagull right in the head. Nice shot! The other birds squawk in fear and fly away. You approach the corpse of the bird and retrieve some meat.

• Use your Bow (Hunting, Requires at least 1 Arrow)

Failure

You notch an arrow and aim at the birds. It’s hard because they move too much as they bicker. You wait for the right moment and release the arrow. It impales one bird. Its two companions jump off, surprised but soon they decide it's no big deal and start... eating the bird you just pinned to the ground. You stare at the scene flabbergasted. Have those birds no shame? You feel depressed to have wasted a good arrow to feed these nasty cannibal birds.

You notch an arrow and aim at the birds. It’s hard because they move too much as they bicker. You wait for the right moment and release the arrow. It impales two birds. TWO BIRDS? WITH ONE ARROW? You're amazed by your skill! The third one flies away, squawking in fear. You happily trot toward your kills and retrieve some meat, along with what the birds were fighting over.
